About the Role
Total Wine & More is seeking a Lead, Financial Planning & Analysis to join our Merchandise Finance team in our Bethesda, MD office. You will leverage data driven and detail-oriented skills to forecast, analyze and report on top-line, margin and promotional results. This role interacts with several departments in the company, making it a great opportunity to learn various aspects of the business while putting your retail finance and analytical skills into work. You will provide decision-making support for our Business Planning and Financial Analysis team reporting to the Sr. Director, Financial Planning & Analysis.
You will
- Use multiple software packages (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Excel) to analyze KPIs, and create actionable reports that drive sales and gross margin
- Prepare weekly and monthly PowerPoint presentations summarizing financial performance for senior leadership
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models that support the annual sales planning process for all stores
- Review sales variance to annual plan, discuss cause, and help create action plans
- Support our Functional Business partners by analyzing trends and measuring results of activities and initiatives vs budget and defined expectations
- Other ad-hoc reports and analytics assigned
- Interact directly with senior leadership (VP Store Ops, VP advertising, VP Pricing & Assortment Planning, CFO) while taking ownership of projects
- Comfortable working with a broad spectrum of colleagues on cross functional projects including those on the data science team, store operations team, and digital team
- Clearly presents complex financial analyses to finance and non-finance colleagues – and is prepared to back up their work with support when questioned
- Proactively develops new models and analysis based on current trends/focus areas that drive results – rather than simply maintaining current models or creating reports after being asked
- Strong focus on implementing new and more efficient processes in forecasting (through accuracy reporting, machine learning)
- Requires little to no supervision while working through new analyses
- Provides valuable feedback/viewpoints during team brainstorming sessions
You will come with
- 3+ years of experience as a financial or data analyst or consultant
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field with high GPA
- Advanced in MS Excel (can perform complex functions)
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in retail/consumer products industry is a plus
- Solid communication skills, written and oral
