About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer with expertise in all aspects of business intelligence – reporting and dashboarding, data modeling & analysis, and governance, to join our Data Services team in our Bethesda, MD office. We are embarking on a significant initiative to transform all aspects of data lifecycle management services within Total Wine & More including enterprise data architecture, business intelligence, and data warehousing – leveraging the cloud to create a foundation for advanced analytics and data quality management capabilities longer term.  

You will be passionate about transforming raw data into actionable insights to help execute our vision for data services at Total Wine & More. You will leverage reporting and data modeling skills to drive business value across all departments through clear, business-focused reporting solutions. You will work closely with the business and technology teams and enjoy learning and problem solving in a fast-paced environment. This role reports to the Director of Business Intelligence and Data Analysis.

You will

  • Build and maintain reporting solutions using Power BI and Looker.
  • Leverage SQL skills to answer ad-hoc data and reporting requests.
  • Work with business stakeholders to gather, vet, and translate requirements for new and existing reporting solutions. 
  • Provide training and support to business users, ensuring effective use of BI tools and reporting solutions. 
  • Work with senior team members in optimization of data models and refactoring of existing reporting solutions. 
  • Own BI ticketing system, working with business users to address identified problems with reports and track new requests.
  • Drive documentation of current and new BI architecture and reporting solutions
  • Work with Director of BI to support governance and best practices adoption across the organization.
  • Be proactive and take ownership of the projects and tasks assigned. 

You will come with

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in Computer Science, Technology, Business, or related field.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis or related fields
  • Proven track record in building impactful reporting solutions using cloud native tools. 
  • Experience with cloud-based business intelligence technologies. 
  • Experienced with SQL for data analysis and data modeling. 
  • Knowledge about leveraging the cloud in the development of data models. 
  • Understanding of database and data modeling concepts
  • Knowledgeable about BI governance strategies and best practices
  • Passionate about data, data analytics, visualizations, and storytelling
  • Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve along with the ability to make recommendations based on analysis are extremely important. 
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. 
  • Must be self-managed, highly motivated and have a strong drive for results. 
  • Must be naturally able to exert influence, drive, and steer stakeholders in the right direction. 
  • Proven, demonstrated capability in gathering and documenting complex business and functional requirements. 
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly and reduce them to practice with little supervision.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and plan effectively to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and to derive workable actions. 
  • Ability to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm. 
  • Experience with cloud-based analytical platforms (GCP, Azure), is preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise Business Intelligence technologies (Power BI, Looker), is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data lifecycle management (DLM), is preferred.
  • Familiar with retail operations, is preferred.

Pay Range:

$70,470.00 – $114,400.00
