About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Manager, Assortment Planning, to join our Merchandising team onsite in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will lead the strategic planning and optimization of product assortments for the Beer and “And More” (Food, Other Beverage, Lifestyles, and Cigar) departments across our 285+ stores in 30+ states. You will serve as a key partner to category leadership, leveraging data and insights to drive profitable growth, maximize space productivity, and enhance the customer experience.

This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, advanced analytical capability, and cross-functional collaboration to execute enterprise-level initiatives that impact assortment strategy and financial performance. You will report to the Senior Director, Assortment & Space Planning. 

You will

  • Build and drive assortment strategies for the Beer and “And More” departments that align with company objectives and support category growth and profitability.
  • Lead complex assortment optimization projects, analyzing customer trends, market data (Nielsen, Circana), and financial performance to inform strategic decisions.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration by partnering with Category Managers, Space Planning, Marketing, and Supply Chain to align assortment decisions with inventory and promotional strategies.
  • Manage key analytical tools and frameworks, leveraging data to develop recommendations on item expansions, discontinuations, and regional tailoring of assortments.
  • Spearhead process improvement initiatives to increase the efficiency and accuracy of assortment planning methods, reporting, and forecasting capabilities.
  • Lead and mentor team members or cross-functional contributors through project execution, ensuring timely delivery of high-impact insights and recommendations.
  • Negotiate and align with stakeholders on priorities, timelines, and resources to balance short-term tactical needs with long-term strategic goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports that summarize data and provide clear insights to support team-level decision-making and operational improvements

You will come with

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Merchandising, or a related field Preferred
  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in assortment planning, category management, inventory optimization, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex projects and influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with expertise in Excel and SQL; experience with Power BI, Looker, and retail data sources (Nielsen/IRI) preferred.
  • Ability to translate data into strategic insights and actionable recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Excellent project management, organization, and communication skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Passion for the beverage industry and a strong curiosity about consumer trends and market dynamics.
