About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Vice President, Field Human Resources to join our HR team in our Bethesda, MD office. The VP of Field HR serves as a key strategic leader responsible for advancing HR strategy and operational excellence across field operations, supporting teams across 31 states and territories. This role partners closely with executive, regional, and field leadership to align people strategies with business objectives, strengthen organizational performance, and cultivating our purpose of connecting people through joyful experiences. This role oversees initiatives that drive team member engagement, leadership development, talent pipeline growth, and workforce effectiveness while ensuring strong compliance and risk management across all field locations. Leading a team of HR professionals, this role is responsible for developing scalable HR programs and solutions that support operational growth, enhance employee experience, and enable field leaders to succeed in a dynamic retail environment. This role reports to the Chief People Officer.

You will

  • Develop and execute HR strategies that support field operations and align with overall business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to regional and field leadership, providing guidance on workforce planning, organizational design, and people strategies to support operational growth and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across all field locations.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risk related to HR policies, practices, and employee relations while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance.
  • Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture that drives team member engagement, retention, and performance.
  • Partner with field leadership to promote consistent communication, recognition, and alignment with organizational values.
  • Oversee workforce planning strategies and partner with Talent Acquisition to support high-volume and strategic hiring needs.
  • Drive leadership development programs that equip field leaders with the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Build strong partnerships with field and regional leadership to align HR initiatives with operational priorities.
  •  Collaborate closely with HR Centers of Excellence, including Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development, to ensure cohesive and effective execution of enterprise HR strategies.
  • 65-70% travel required.

You will come with

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related discipline required; Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience with 5+ years in senior leadership roles, including people leadership.
  • Experience supporting across the HR suite, including staffing, compensation, labor and employment relations, compliance, and learning development.
  • Experience leading HR strategy for multi-location retail or field-based organizations, including high-volume hiring, workforce planning, and frontline team member engagement.
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and retail operations to shape organizational strategy and workforce planning.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise HR initiatives aligned with business growth and profitability goals.
  • Experience driving engagement, culture transformation, and leadership development programs across geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment, discretion, and integrity while advising executive leadership on complex employee and organizational matters.
  • Proven track record of proactively mitigating legal and employee relations risk by implementing compliant HR policies, training programs, and best practices aligned with evolving labor laws.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP Human Resources\SPHR or SHRM-SCP is preferred.

$214,650.00 – $322,020.00 Annual
